Nix), Canadian Consumers League, and Consumers Research Service (Chicago); CR's aid to research and scientific education; attacks on CR by Frank Dalton O'Sullivan, author of the anti-CR book, Poison Pen of New Jersey; campaigns against CR; attacks on CR by advertising agencies, patent medicine manufacturers, Printers' Ink, Christian Century, Anna Steese Richardson of Woman's Home Companion, Seiberling Rubber Co., Readers Digest, and the Forum; deliberate confusion of consumer organizations; attempts to mislead CR (razor blades); business pressure on CR; confusing CR with other organizations including Consumers Digest; and effect of CR's criticisms.

Anna Steese Richardson was born in Ohio, and raised by her aunts and grandmothers in Philadelphia after the early death of her mother. Around 1883, after acquiring a Normal School diploma, she took a teaching job in Colorado. She married William Richardson, with whom she had three children; they later divorced.
